On 22 September Ukrainian-Austrian Association organized the hybrid symposium UKRAINE. WAR AND WAR CRIMES at the ceremonial hall of Vienna City Hall in partnership with the Vienna School for International Studies, Paneuropean Movement and University of Vienna with an audience of more than 200 physically and 400 online. Excellent speakers from Austria, Ukraine and other countries, distinct interest by the media, a very well received musical outro and finally a generous reception by City of Vienna with a lot of high-level networking.

53th Economic Forum Karpacz on September 8-10, 2026

Ukrainian-Austrian Association was invited as a partner to the largest Eastern European forum which hosted more than 6,000 participants and presented some 100 panels.
The panel “Rebuilding Ukraine: Europe’s Largest Economic Project Since 1945” was led by UAA-president Alfred F. Praus who delivered an introductory statement and moderated the panel with several distinguished Ukrainian and international speakers.
According to the latest Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment 5 by the Government of Ukraine, the World Bank Group, the European Commission, and the United Nations, as of 31 December 2025 the total cost of reconstruction and recovery in Ukraine is estimated at USD 588 billion. Considering the current severe escalation spiral this amount may easily reach USD 650 – 700 billion meanwhile.
The discussion centered around how to attract the international community to invest and how to finance such extreme order of magnitude of investment. It included issues like war insurance of investment, how to secure transparency of the use of funding as well as accountability and some practical examples of build-up to date.
In the light of the complexity and importance of the topic for all of Europe time was definitely much too short.

Photo exhibition “Impressions of War – The Russian War in Ukraine” at Museum of Military History in Vienna/Austria from Feb. 10 to August 2

On February 10, 2026, the Museum of Military History in Vienna/Austria opened the photo exhibition “Impressions of War – The Russian War in Ukraine”. This exhibition was initiated and is shown until August 2 in partnership with Ukrainian-Austrian Association (UAA).
The photos of the exhibition were provided by the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers with the help of UAA-President Alfred F. Praus who had the honour of delivering an opening address.
The photo installation depicts the impact of the Russian war of aggression on the Ukrainian population. These are snapshots of civilians affected by violence and damaged civilian infrastructure, which are targeted daily by the Russian aggressors. The seemingly chaotic and disordered presentation aims to reflect the experiences of everyday life during the war and provide a concise picture of civilian life in wartime.

150 years anniversary of Chernivtsi university on 11 October 2025 initiated and organized by Ukrainian-Austrian Association (UAA): The university had been founded on the initiative of Austro-Hungarian emperor Francis-Joseph I as Franz-Joseph Universität.
UAA-president Alfred F. Praus moderated the high-profile event featuring a trialogue of historians from Austria, namely Univ. Prof. Boerries Kuzmany, and Ukraine, i.e. Univ. Prof. Ihor Zhaloba and Univ. Prof. Anatoliy Kruglashov of Chernivtsi university, and a gala-concert by Kyiv Camerata, followed by a VIP-reception.
Thanks to Raiffeisen Bank UA for their general sponsorship.
Guests included high-level representatives from the city and region, other regions of Ukraine, several members of Romanian parliament and last not least Karl Habsburg who was delivering an address, as well as personalities from the Austrian community. Audience of several 100. Much applause. Great success!

Symposium Ukraine in geopolitically turbulent times City Hall of Vienna on 24 September 2025

On 24 September Ukrainian-Austrian Association had, after the very successful Ukraine-symposium in April 2024, the privilege to organize a Ukraine symposium in partnership with the Diplomatic Academy upon invitation by the mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig at the elegant ceremonial hall of Vienna City Hall.
Opening speeches were given by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleksandr Mischenko and ambassador Vasyl Khymynets from the Ukrainian side and member of the Vienna Municipal Council Omar Al-Rawi and director of Diplomatic Academy Martin Eichtinger from Austria.
President of Ukrainian-Austrian Association Alfred F. Praus moderated the intensive discussion of panelists, namely Austrian ambassadors Emil Brix and Harald Stranzl, political analyst Gustav Gressel, Peter Dickinson, editor and commentator from Ukraine, and Oksana Stavrou, author of the book “Russlands Krieg gegen die Ukraine”, which will be published in English by Springer Verlag still this year.
Overarching conclusions: world order is in the process of a radical change against the backdrop of erratic US-politics; further escalation by Russia of the war in Ukraine is likely, as are hybrid Russian attacks on EU/NATO territory which have to be countered with level-headedness and prudence; with EU- and NATO-countries quickly supporting and arming Ukraine finally in a sufficient way, Russia may indeed be driven out of Ukrainian land they have grabbed. Such success would mean victory over Russia. Frozen Russian Central Bank money may fund such support.
During the following reception with traditional Austrian food and beverages the international audience of some 200 discussed the many aspects raised in the panel.

150 years anniversary of Chernivtsi university on 11 October 2025

University in Chernivtsi was founded in October 1875 as Franz-Joseph University upon the initiative of emperor of Austro-Hungarian monarchy Franz-Joseph Habsburg, then ruling Bukowina. In order to celebrate this anniversary, UAA has initiated and is co-organising this celebration with a scientific trialogue of distinguished historians from Ukraine and Austria and a gala concert by highly esteemed long-term soloist of National Opera of Ukraine, Susanna Chakhoian with the acclaimed Kyiv Camerata orchestra. A long series of distinguished guests will include university alumnus, former prime minister of Ukraine, Arseniy Petrovych Yatsenyuk and the actual head of Habsburg dynasty, Karl Habsburg. Join us!

On 14 May 2025 at the Austrian Embassy in Kyiv, Alfred F. Praus, President of Ukrainian-Austrian Association was awarded the Ukrainian order HONOR AND GLORIA. It is a privilege indeed to receive this high award for many years of support of Ukraine, together with Austrian ambassador Robert Mueller and Serhii Lukashov, National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Ukraine, upon the kind initiative by philanthropist and successful business woman Lida Filatova. At the ceremony, Alfred F. Praus assured the continuation of his efforts for the successful future of Ukraine
